Feature wall Zoom stage by our Head of Brand
Set a Zoom stage with a feature wall and you'll never look back (because you'll see it in your Zoom reflection)... For us Interior Design aficionados here at Raft, exposing our homes to the world via Zoom was always going to require some thought. We've been accustomed to the virtual space for some time, offering Video Showroom Tours before we even knew what coronavirus was. However, surrounded by the beauty of our signature teak and handmade sofas in our Raft showrooms was our safety blanket. Joining a virtual call with our home office backdrops on display was new territory. So, creating a synergy between the material and the virtual world with a true interior design flair became our mission. Our solution? Feature walls.
So, if you're looking to embark on a weekend DIY project, feature walls are a fantastic way to add intrigue and texture to your living space, offering an edgy alternative to a fresh lick of paint. Also known as an accent wall, a feature wall can liven up a room, offering texture and character to a tired space. Go bold with tiled detailing, a painted mural or neutral wood panels like our Head of Brand. At Raft Furniture, we live and breathe all things home and interior design. So, it’s no surprise that Siobhan, our Head of Brand decided to take advantage of the stay at home order to revamp their living space with a feature wall. With an eye for design, Siobhan spotted the wall wood paneling trend on Instagram and decided to incorporate it into her own home. With a love of neutral colours and organic textures, Siobhan saw potential in a plain grey wall.
So, purchasing an 18mm panel of MDF (cut to size by the homeware store), a construction adhesive, some decorators’ caulk, some primer and a pot of paint she was ready to go.
Top tip from our Head of Brand:
“We used the golden ratio that you see all the time in art and nature (from Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel to the form of pinecones and seashells). We all instinctively recognise the beauty of this ratio and it proves that when it comes to interior design it pays off to go with your instinct!”
